ARTIST ANDY DIXON
Canada, Vancouver-based artist Andy Dixon (facebook) - Growing up involved in Vancouver’s punk music scene, I was moved by the energy and urgency in the music and drawn to the idea that the impulse of expression was valued above technical skill. Examining how I defined an artist’s skill-set in punk culture, I began developing an alternative and more poetic set of criteria for deciding what was ‘good’. The emotional response of the audience became my barometer, which I decided was not necessarily tied to traditional measures of an artist’s technical proficiency. I naturally carried this forward into my current work.
