‘SELF PORTRAIT’ BY BOO SAVILLE
Artist Boo Saville - “I have always been interested in images and objects with a dual quality, that both frighten and comfort. I am looking for a residual fragment of something, an event or object that could have held spiritual, religious or scientific importance. I am interested in the universality of these objects, There is a beauty and brutality in these photographs which i am hoping to re-examine”, Saville suggests her response is an imitation of nature, yet translated through her own analysis of the subject and its form.
FACE PAINTED BY DEIDRE BUT-HUSAIM
Artist Deidre But-Husaim born a twin. Lives and works in Adelaide, South Australia.
“Popular culture is both the prolific producer and voracious consumer of the beauty myth and its heroes and heroines, who provide creative fodder for Deidre But-Husaim. Her edgy painted portraits of insouciant youths offer a curious combination of knowing innocence. Importantly, But-Husaims adornments are not the ubiquitous stock standard tattoos that currently abound in contemporary culture, but rather elaborate baroque and rococo embellishments of the artists creation, such as exquisite chintzy floral vines and delicate birds.” - Alison Kubler (read)
BLACK AND WHITE PORTRAIT PAINTINGS BY CHARLES BIERK
Toronto-based painter Charles Bierk (facebook / twitter) whose black and white portraits (oil on canvas) verge on photo-realism while they explore the process of their own making. LANDSCAPES Photo series are self-portraits
Netherlands, Arnhem-based artist Levi van Veluw (facebook)
Veluw´s photo series are self-portraits, drawn and photographed by himself: a one-man-process. His works constitute elemental transfers; modifying the face as object; combining it with other stylistic elements to create a third visual object of great visual impact. The work you see therefore is not a portrait, but an information-rich image of colour, form, texture, and content. The image contains the history of a short creative process, with the artist shifting between the entities of subject and object.

STUNNING CHARCOAL DRAWING BY DOUGLAS MCDOUGALL
Douglas Mcdougall born in Glasgow 1963 , Scotland / lives and works in london, uk. McDougalls process involves laborious, detailed drawing of a photorealistic quality, but is distinguished by the use of scalpel blades, rubbers, and sandpaper to scrape and tear the surface to create highlights and add texture to the paper. Douglas has spent years finely honing his technique, pushing the medium of charcoal on paper to an absolute extreme. From subtle biographical sentiment to the more dark confrontational aspects of human existence, his work evokes a theatre of emotional terrain for the viewer to navigate.
