Artist Turns Abandoned Cars into Public Art Installations
Sao Paulo street artist Felipe Carrelli turns abandoned cars into art and garden spaces transforming neighborhood eyesores into beautiful public art installations. Felipe first came up with the idea last year after a car that was abandoned on the street near where he works became a shelter for homeless people. The urban project called “Ocupe Carrinho”, or Occupy the Car has been welcomed by the neighborhood, so much so that a lot of residents have pitched in to help beautify other cars. “People from the community are very happy,” says Carrelli, “they help us paint and also water the plants.”

ok, graffiti.
i mean, technically it’s attached to a building, so it’s tangentially architecture? right?
well, maybe i just have too broad an idea of what constitutes architecture, as i’ve included pictures of clouds and lizards on this site. but i’m a college drop-out, so what do you expect? an erudite and reasoned consideration of exceptional buildings? or pictures of lizards and graffiti? how about an erudite and reasoned consideration of lizards and graffiti? and buildings, too, on occasion.
i also have a really hard time spelling words with double consonants. like: ‘occasion’. is that right? it looks like it should have 2 ‘s’s’.
so: graffiti. you have to admit, this graffiti is pretty remarkable. and it defines and establishes the space, far more than the building upon which it’s been painted. the building itself is kind of egregiously unremarkable. it’s only the graffiti that distinguishes the building from the few million other generic buildings in l.a.
i especially like the scary blue baby doll playing bongos. and the scary clown.

Instant Hutong | marcella campa & stefano avesani - “fluo house is a site specific meet-up space made of colorful tapes and created on occasion of Beijing BaiYe – Beijing White Night on 22-23 March 2013, in which for 24 hours visitors could enjoy 24 different events and encounters around Dongsi area in Beijing. We chose a half destroyed little room within a demolition site and we decided to deal playfully with this idea of temporary, ephemeral, fading and rebuilding. After removing dust and debris, the back wall was decorated with a graphic illusion as starting visible sign to mark our intervention. Visitors could take fluorescent stickers and reflector adhesive strips and use them to fill the remaining walls.”

THE INTERNATIONAL STREET ART OF SLINKACHU
London-based artist Slinkachu (facebook / blog) - For an artist whose work frequently represents the themes of anonymity, alienation and loneliness inspired by city-living. In 2006, Slinkachu embarked on the first of his street art installation campaigns: The Little People Project. His miniature figures are left to fend for themselves in the bustling city, where they are then photographed and left to the abandon of their urban environment. These figures embody the estrangement spurred by the over-whelming nature of the modern metropolis, and incite a renewed perspective of the everyday urban experience to those who find them.

YARN BOMBING
Melissa Maddonni Haims (facebook) a fiber artist based in Philadelphia. she uses alternative materials (mostly recycled, reclaimed + rescued), specifically vintage fabrics and yarn, to create large scale crochet + knit installations. while the majority of her work shows in gallery settings, ms. Haims has a passion for public art and graffiti. she has been yarn bombing since early 2010.
- “Cold Comfort” | 1,2 and 3 images - Thirty separate installations made from yarns, Madagascar grasses and “plarn” (plastic bags made into yarn) appear along the center’s Widener Trail and main driveway, inviting winter travelers to stroll the woods and see them anew.

Arne Quinze was born in 1971 in Belgium and lives and works in Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium. Recurring fundamentals in his oeuvre are the use of electrical colors in fluorescent paint and themes referring to social interaction, communication, and urbanism.
Rocks Strangers (Zeeheldenplein, Oostende, Belgium) are strange objects popping up where you least expect them and having a huge effect on the urban and architectural context of the environment. Rocks Strangers generate the sentiment of estrangement because of their electric orange colour. At the same time however, they evoke the primal emotions of curiosity and astonishment of man.

To promote the new season of television drama series, Covert Affairs, the UK channel Really commissioned make-up Artist Carolyn Roper to camouflage woman in body paint so that they would blend into London’s scenery. One of them has been painted as vegetables and staged on the veggies stand at London’s Portobello Market.
